Brits Ditch Abroad Holidays as UK Heatwave Hits 36°C

New research shows staycations are overtaking trips overseas, with coastal breaks emerging as the nation’s top choice ahead of the heatwave.

Sunny spells are set to hit the UK this week, with temperatures forecast to reach as high as 36°C. The warm weather serves as a timely reminder that while Brits often dream of sunshine abroad, they don’t necessarily need to leave the country to find it.

Staycations are no longer a second choice; they’re now competing head-to-head with trips abroad.

A new national report from holiday provider Away Resorts, surveying 3,000 Brits, reveals just how close that competition has become, with 46% of respondents saying a UK staycation would be their ideal trip, narrowly edging out holidays abroad at 45%.

Coastal breaks are leading the way, with over half of Brits (52%) choosing beach or seaside destinations as their top pick. City breaks (45%) and countryside escapes (34%) also remain popular, while more niche trips like skiing (12%) fall significantly behind.
