Unique opportunity to work with award winning artist in rural Leicestershire

Award winning British portraitist and Associate of the Royal Society of Portrait painters, Binny Mathews, is to run a three-day landscape painting course in the heart of Leicestershire in July, and is encouraging those who wish to become a landscape artist to join her.

The three-day course is being run at Cowslip Meadows, at Laughton on the outskirts of Market Harborough and is open to all.

Kate Gilbertson-Hart who runs Cowslip Meadows, a sustainable countryside retreat said: “I have run art courses at Cowslip Meadows for the last few years, and it is great that Binny has agreed to share her extensive talent and run the course.”

She added: “The three days course runs from June 29th until July 3rd and will guide participants into developing their own ‘handwriting’ in paint. The course is not prescriptive, instead it provides a space to explore different ways of working. We investigate the emotional and physical use of colour, mark making, measuring, line, tone, chroma strength and composition. Binny gives demonstrations to suggest differing approaches throughout the three days.”

Kate said: “The course starts with discussion each morning before undertaking the main painting. Students are invited to bring in their own work in digital format, to show to Binny during their one-to-one sessions. Binny then tailors the tuition to each individual and their needs.”

She added: “Binny teaches in oil, but is happy to support any preferred medium. This is an incredible opportunity to gain knowledge from a celebrated practicing artist. We have a maximum of 10 students, and small group allows for more individual, focused attention. Accommodation can be arranged within walking distance of Binny’s teaching.”
