Guy Shahar on late autism diagnosis & new podcast launch
Guy Shahar grew up sensing he experienced the world differently, but without the language to understand why. When his son was diagnosed with autism at just two years old, everything finally made sense and it changed the direction of his life.
As a TEDx speaker and the co-founder of Transforming Autism, Guy has since dedicated his work to helping families feel less alone in the early years, a time that can often feel overwhelming and uncertain.
“I lived most of my life without anyone knowing I was autistic,” says Guy. “Then, when my son was diagnosed at two years old, everything clicked. I realised what I had been missing, and what every family deserves. Connection. Understanding. And joy.”
Through Transforming Autism, Guy and his team support children to develop stronger communication, greater social engagement and improved overall well-being. The approach aims to reduce the early trauma many autistic children experience when they feel misunderstood or judged.
Parents and carers are supported to build a compassionate understanding of autism and given practical tools to create trusting, loving relationships with their child, helping families feel more confident, connected and hopeful about the future.
Guy first shared his personal journey in his TEDx talk The Beautiful Reality of Autism. He is now expanding that conversation through The Beautiful Reality of Autism Podcast, featuring open discussions with world-leading researchers, clinicians and parents, including Simon Baron-Cohen and Tony Attwood.
