FARAGE: WE’RE DESTROYING THE CAR INDUSTRY WITH EV MANDATES MADNESS

NIGEL Farage has said Ed Miliband’s plan to subsidise electric vehicles will not work because people are not convinced about their reliability.

Speaking to GB News, he said: “We’ve all got to go green. It’s really, really important. Boris started it by saying we’ve become the Saudi Arabia of wind. Theresa May wrote it into law by saying we had to be net zero by 2050.

“It’s become the new religion of our London political classes; we must all bow down before Net Zero.

“Don’t worry how much it costs. Don’t worry how many factories it closes. Don’t worry that it is destroying the British car industry, who in the last year have produced fewer cars than since 1948.

“But a boost for electric vehicles, Labour will now, as Ed Miliband announced, give a direct subsidy of £3,750 for every electric car you buy under the value of £37,000.

“But the point is, people aren’t buying electric cars in huge numbers, because they simply don’t trust them. If they drive them and they leave the big cities, they suffer from range anxiety. The resale value on these cars is terrible.

“I think people take the view that petrol and diesel engines are now becoming so much more efficient that when you fill the tank, you probably get double the mileage that you got 20 to 25 years ago.

“It’s as if this is the great religion. I listened to ministers discussing this, and we’re told that if we give the lead, the rest of the world will follow and will stop global warming.

“It doesn’t really matter whether it’s Boris or Ed Miliband, they’re all the same. They put these targets on British car manufacturers. Consumers aren’t playing ball. We’re destroying the car industry, literally self-destructing the car industry on these EV mandates madness.”
