Microtia is a disease that affects the ears and can lead to hearing issues and underdeveloped ears, and Microtia UK has been helping those born with the disease and their families by offering bespoke advice and a support hub.

The Community Fund donation of £1,500 from David Wilson Homes will go towards creating new information leaflets which will be distributed to families who have a child suffering with microtia.

Tina Rycroft, Non-executive director of fundraising and communications at Microtia UK, said: “We would like to thank David Wilson Homes for recognising the need for the services we provide and supporting those suffering with microtia and their families.

“When we first heard we were getting a donation from David Wilson Homes, it was a wonderful surprise, and we were so thankful Microtia UK had been thought of.

“The contribution will massively help us, as we are a small charity and we rely on fundraising and donations. The funds will go towards creating information booklets which are very important, as this is often the first thing a parent will read after being told their child has microtia.”

The developer’s donation was made as part of The Barratt Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to support Microtia UK in its mission to provide support to vulnerable families.

“We hope to make a positive difference in the lives of deserving beneficiaries through charities such as Microtia UK and contribute to the welfare of those living with the condition.”
