Animal Welfare Investigators and Local Authorities Bust Trafficking Network, Rescuing 149 Turtles in the Philippines
Animal Welfare Investigations Project (AWIP) achieved a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against wildlife trafficking by collaborating with local authorities in the Philippines to conduct a successful joint operation. The undercover investigators from AWIP worked hand in hand with the Filipino law enforcement agencies to strike at the heart of a notorious trafficking network, resulting in the arrest of one trafficker and the rescue of 149 endangered turtles.
The operation, meticulously planned and executed, targeted the illicit trafficking of endangered species, a problem that has plagued the region for years. AWIP’s dedicated team of investigators has been working tirelessly to investigate illegal activities and bring perpetrators to justice.
The trafficker’s arrest came as a significant breakthrough, as they were suspected to be a major player in the underground trade. By dismantling this criminal network, AWIP and the local authorities have struck a substantial blow against animal traffickers and sent a clear message that such acts will not be tolerated.
The rescue of 149 turtles is a testament to the importance of such operations. These innocent animals, subjected to unimaginable suffering, have been given a new lease on life thanks to the combined efforts of AWIP and the Philippine law enforcement agencies. The rescued turtles are currently receiving the necessary care and attention in specialised facilities before being released back into their natural habitats.
“We are immensely proud of the efforts by our undercover investigators and the remarkable cooperation we received from the Filipino authorities,” said Jacob Lloyd, Head of Investigations for AWIP. “Our joint operation in the Philippines is a clear indication that together, we can make a real impact in the fight against animal trafficking. We will continue to be relentless in our pursuit of justice for wildlife and work towards a world where such cruelty is eradicated.”
AWIP is committed to its mission of safeguarding the welfare of animals, and this joint operation underscores the effectiveness of collaboration between NGOs and governmental bodies. The successful outcome would not have been possible without the support and coordination of local authorities in the Philippines, who demonstrated unwavering dedication to combating wildlife trafficking.
