Mistle-toes! Half of Brits admit they love receiving socks at Christmas

Millions of Brits have admitted they want a loved one to buy them a Christmas present they DID NOT want when they were children, according to new national research.

Socks have been the butt of jokes when telling family and friends about unwanted gifts but a festive study by Flaming Grill pubs has found more than half of adults (51%) are looking forward to receiving a practical gift, like new socks, proving that even the smallest treats can spark joy during the holidays.

More than half of Brits (59%) admitted to receiving Christmas gifts they didn’t like and two thirds (64%) with Brits actually indulging in spending £140 on average on Christmas gifts for themselves.

The survey revealed women are bigger spenders when it comes to self-gifting at Christmas, with almost two-thirds (65%) admitting to spending more money during the holidays compared to just 56% of men.

For some, the spending doesn’t just stop at small treats, as two per cent confess to splashing more than a whopping £1,000 on special presents for “me, myself, and I.”

But the indulgence doesn’t stop there for nearly half (48%) admit to eating and drinking more than usual throughout the festive period, while the average UK adult will let their hair down on their work night out at the pub, spending £120 on average.

Daily routine is also impacted across the Christmas period, with almost two thirds of Brits (65%) saying theirs go out the window. In fact, many Brits use Christmas as a chance to take a break from the busy hustle and bustle of life, with one in six (15%) admitting they need to take ‘duvet days’ during the holidays.

Sophie Howells, Senior Marketing Manager at Flaming Grill, said: “Christmas isn’t just about being nice, it’s also the perfect time to embrace being a little bit naughty!

“Whether you’re treating yourself to an extravagant gift or enjoying a festive night out, we want to celebrate the joy that comes with putting yourself first once in a while.
