This £3 ingredient is the easy hack to rid your sheets of dust mites

Amongst many of the reasons to keep your bedroom clean, did you know that it is estimated that there could be as many as 1 million dust mites inhabiting a single bed, alone?

Now cleaning and home creator, @anna_louisa_at_home shared her routine on TikTok for deep cleaning the bed and revealed a budget-friendly hack to reduce dust mites.

In the video with over 1.8 million views, the TikTok creator uses a single ingredient to keep dust mites at bay. In the video she shows users how she cleans her sheets: “Here’s a quick tip for your bedding. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to your wash as it helps kill any dust mites.”

The low cost ingredient starts at as little as £3 a bottle, making it a welcome solution to householders looking to keep their home clean and hygienic on a budget.

In response to the video, experts from luxury bed brand, Comodo Living, confirm that the cost-effective hack is a must-include step into your cleaning routine.

“Eucalyptus oil contains natural ingredients which have insecticidal and acaricidal properties which means it’s an easy way to reduce the chances of dust mites in your bed in a natural way.”, says Comodo Living’s, Alex Francis.

According to the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, in a lab, 80% of dust mites were killed after being immersed in eucalyptus oil for 30-60 minutes.

Alex adds, “You can follow Anna’s simple method in your regular sheet wash or try diluting a few drops of eucalyptus oil in a spray bottle and apply over your mattress, headboard, duvet and pillows. Not only does it reduce dust mites but it also leaves a pleasant fragrance on your bed!”
