Breakout Star of THE DONOR PARTY Talks Comedic Debut & New Season of “The Good Doctor”
Actress, writer and filmmaker Bria Samoné Henderson makes her comedic debut in the comedy THE DONOR PARTY, out now in select theaters and on demand. She has been hailed as a rising star by Niecy Nash
Henderson plays Amandine, the dynamic and witty best friend of Jaclyn (Malin Ackerman) who is ready to become a mother by any means necessary. Henderson’s character humorously conspires with Jaclyn to help her hatch a plan to get pregnant at a Donor Party. This is Henderson’s first major feature film and will be released in select theaters and on demand.
Audiences will recognize Henderson from ABC’s long running medical drama “The Good Doctor” in her role as Dr. Jordan Allen, a God-fearing doctor whose faith plays a central role in her daily life as she balances showing genuine care and commitment to her patients while also being deeply invested in finding ways to quickly rise through the ranks. Henderson recently became the show’s newest series regular. She was first introduced in Season 4 as a popular recurring guest star and is now a series regular in Season 6.
Henderson also appeared in the HULU/FX drama miniseries, Mrs. America where she starred as Ms. Magazine editor Margaret Sloan, an outspoken, funny, radical-thinking African American feminist and civil rights activist who marched with MLK. The out lesbian, single mother and accomplished poet, was an intersectional trailblazer in several cultural and political movements.
NPR called the performances in this miniseries “uniformly excellent” with Henderson appearing alongside Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Sarah Paulson, Margo Martindale, Uzo Aduba, Elizabeth Banks and Tracey Ullman. The nine-episode series told the story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly, played by Blanchett.
The multitalented Henderson also wrote, directed and starred in her own short film, “Virginality” that told the story of a thirty-year-old virgin who trades in her purity for a dream job that propels her into being penetrated by life, figuratively and literally. The film was selected to screen at the Oscar Micheaux FIlm Festival in LA where it won Outstanding Comedic Digital Series and was nominated in four different categories.
Virginality” also screened at the BronzeLens Film Festival in Atlanta, GA where Henderson was recognized with the Rising Superstar Award at its 13th Annual Women Superstars Honors. In 2021, she was nominated by Niecy Nash as a Women In Film Pathmaker Awardee.
Henderson is a humanitarian who has given back to communities across the globe through a variety of volunteer work. In the past, she has carved out time to tutor youth and traveled to Africa where she delivered lessons at a Nigerian school and created youth programs for girls.
