The top hair trends seen on this year’s Golden Globes red carpet
Last night’s Golden Globe Awards attracted celebrities across film and television to celebrate the best movies and shows of the last twelve months.
But it was also arguably a celebration of this year’s hair trends, as dolled-up actresses walked the carpet sporting chic and trendy hairstyles that will be all the rage in 2023.
Here, Hair Expert Nicole Petty at Milk + Blush, shares her favourite celebrity looks and how to achieve them.
Jenna Ortega
The ‘Wednesday’ actress sported a different style to her iconic character, opting instead for dark auburn curtain bangs and a choppy wolf cut bob with sixties-style flipped-out ends.
Red hues will be THE hair colour for 2023, evident from the 899,000 Google searches ‘red hair’ has had in the last month alone.
Jenna’s bob cut is also very much on trend, with bobs set to be one of the most popular haircuts of the year.
You can easily achieve her look at home. Start by blow-drying your hair with a round brush and setting it in curlers to add volume to your roots.
To finish, use a straightener to flip the ends of your hair outwards and finish with hairspray.
Lily James
The Mamma Mia actress opted for a trendy lob and dark chocolate brown hair – complete with a deep side-parting and one side tucked behind her ear to give an effortless Hollywood glamour feel.
Despite the shorter length of Lily’s hair, tape-in extensions were actually key to achieving the look, adding volume to the sides of the hair to fill any space while remaining seamless.
Hair extensions are a great tool for giving your hair versatility to try different styles and add thickness to otherwise fine hair.
This easy-to-follow guide to tape-in extensions can help you achieve Lily’s look.
Just remember to use plenty of strong-hold hairspray to ensure the silhouette of the hair holds.
Anya Taylor-Joy
The mix of platinum and more buttery blonde tones looks gorgeous on Anya, who wore her locks super straight with a middle-parting and one section of hair pinned up in a perfect twist.
Her hairstyle is being coined as ‘Y2K,’ influenced by the popular hairstyles of the early 2000s that were often sleek and straight.
Whilst shorter hair is certainly the more popular choice for 2023, Anya’s waist-length tresses are a stunning look to replicate.
Start by straightening freshly washed hair, ensuring that it’s sleek from root to end.
To achieve the twist, section a front section of your hair and begin to twist outwards, adding small sections into the twist until your ear is exposed.
If you have shorter hair or layers, consider adding hair extensions which will make the twist look much fuller and will be easier to achieve.
Pin in place with several bobby pins and finish with hairspray.
Kayley Cuoco
Kayley swapped her usual blonde locks for rich brunette hair, styled in a chic up-do with face-framing curtain bangs.
The style embraces elements of the popular ‘messy’ hairstyle’ which has had over 17,000 google searches in the last month, and focuses on volume and loose pieces of hair that complement the face.
The look features textured pieces of hair pulled back into an effortless twisted messy bun.
Achieve this easy style by adding texturising spray to add volume and texture to the bun and give your hair the appearance of thickness.
Margot Robbie
The Australian actress looked gorgeous with her ‘bronde’ locks in a middle-parting and soft curls.
‘Bronde’ is hardly a new hair colour, but it has seen a major resurgence in the current era of low-maintenance hair.
Every blonde is familiar with the regular visits to the salon for a root touch-up, but this mix of blonde and brown tones is the perfect solution, as the roots will grow out far more naturally.
Margot’s hair also features elements of the candlelit hair trend, with mid-tone blonde highlights around the front of her face that add brightness and warmth for a reflective feel.
