Wind down this Winter with award winning fare at the Mhor Wine & Whisky Safari
Scotland’s reputation for stunning scenery is matched only by its reputation as home to the very best food and drink in the world. From wild salmon to single malt whisky, oysters to oatcakes (and everything in-between) it is the land of plenty set against a backdrop of beauty, and this December the Mhor Wine & Whisky Safari shines a spotlight on it all.
Taking place on Wednesday 28 December this winter’s Safari will, for the first time ever, feature the 2022 Scottish Food & Drink Excellence Award Winning products. A staple of Scotland’s foodie events calendar it brings together world-class food and drink, shimmering lochs, majestic mountains and the warmest welcome in the world.
Kicking off at Mhor 84 (just off the A84 en route to Oban, less than two hours from Edinburgh and Glasgow) guests will enjoy a breakfast of champions featuring French toast made using Mhor Bread gold winning sourdough bread, Balquhidder honey, Graham’s salted butter and, to add even more sparkle, a crisp glass of Nyetimber Demi-Sec.
Suitably fortified the group will then set off on a six-mile stroll through Balquhidder village, past the grave of Rob Roy MacGregor and along Loch Voil, taking a short detour up Creag an Tuirc for breath-taking views of Balquhidder Glen. En route Tom and the team will serve up more award-winning fare including East Coast cured saucisson sec, Isle of Raasay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Smoked steelhead trout, shellfish bisque and Isle of Mull cheese biscuits with mustard cress.
On arriving at Monachyle Mhor guests will be shown into the Big Barn where the fires will be lit and a plethora of beverages – from Bruichladdich to Brewgooder Barrel Aged Whisky Sour Beer – will be on offer before guests sit down to a two course feast. Lunch will consist of Macduff braised blade, Gilmour black gold ribeye, meadow hay smoked potatoes and winter greens followed by a lazy day choc bar and bitter chocolate mousse with an oat base and blackthorn salted caramel. More wonderful wine and port will be on hand to wash it all down.
Tom Lewis, chef and owner at the Mhor Collection, said: “We are incredibly lucky in Scotland to be surrounded by some of the best fresh and locally sourced produce in the world. So much of what we find on our doorstep- from salmon and oysters right through to whisky – are considered luxury items and are flown all over the world, yet we get to taste them in the country they were made, in the setting that makes them special.”
