Lembit Opik tells GB News that Matt Hancock now deserves to be left alone

LEMBIT Opik has said Matt Hancock deserves forgiveness following his I’m A Celeb stint.
The former Liberal Democrat MP – who starred in the ITV show himself – told GB News: “I lost my mother and she was in a care home. I didn’t see her for most of the last 18 months of her life. My agent died of COVID and that was a big deal for me as well. But I don’t hold Matt Hancock guilty of that, he’s responsible for the decisions. And also he’s responsible for breaking his own rules. Yeah, he resigned. How many times do you have to punish the person for getting something wrong? I don’t think there’s anything wrong in our society, or the concept of forgiveness. Actually, that’s what the New Testament says, doesn’t it?
In an interview with Patrick Christys, Mr Opik added: “He did make mistakes and I think those of us who actually watched the programme closely heard him say that he was not looking for justification for what he did wrong. One thing I was impressed with was, he took the hit. And he was humble about it. And he listened to the others.
“He admitted even in his debrief with Ant and Dec that he’s done lots of things wrong. What did he want? He wanted a little bit of forgiveness. I still think that he’s probably talking primarily to his kids when he says that but whoever he was talking to surely this is allowed in this country. He didn’t deliberately kill everybody. He didn’t deliberately get things wrong. And I don’t think that he’s a crook. I think what you saw was the honest guy. And at least two and a half million people I think voted for him. Why? Well there is such a thing as you know, the British underdog spirit. And clearly a lot of people now have decided that they do really like Matt Hancock.”
