The simple DIY tips include sealing draughty windows, securing loose floorboards, polishing up furniture and adding some homemade art to any large empty walls.

A spokesperson for LOVESPACE said: “Before putting your house up for sale, it is important to make sure it is in tip top condition ahead of inviting prospective buyers round for viewings.

“This may mean quickly fixing those old squeaky floorboards or adding some flair to your space by reupholstering furniture to stand out in the online photos.

“We saw a bit of a DIY craze during lockdown, with many people turning to online tutorials to learn how to fix parts of their home, upgrade old furniture and recycle old items into new functional pieces. We want to encourage people to continue turning their hand to DIY, with a few super simple but effective tips and tricks.”

Seal draughty doors
Draughty doors and window seals can quickly drain heat from your home. Cut down on heating costs this autumn/winter by making sure all doors and windows are properly sealed. Caulking is an easy and cost effective way to seal up windows, and door seals can be installed underneath any doors to cover up the gaps and keep heat in.

DIY art
Large empty walls in your home can look unattractive, but many don’t have the budget to fork out for large art pieces as they can be very expensive. Instead, try out your own artistic abilities with some simple DIY tricks. Buy a large canvas and try out your design on a piece of paper beforehand so you know exactly what you want to achieve. Play around with using masking tape to stencil out a design, or use large abstract paint strokes for a minimalist feel.

Reupholstering
Although it may seem like a more tricky task, upholstering an old chair is an easy and inexpensive way to brighten up your living space. Go bold with new patterns and textures, or keep it simple and choose a fabric which will blend in with the rest of your decor.

Wardrobe upgrades
If you are sick of looking at the same wardrobe doors everyday, then why not give them a quick upgrade? Grab a staple gun and a few yards of fabric, unscrew the doors from their hinges and cover the door panels with your fabric of choice. Make sure the fabric is super secure with staples before reattaching your doors to the wardrobe and you will feel like you have a whole new piece of furniture.

Secure loose floorboards
Overtime, floorboards can flex and loosen the nails holding them in place, a small annoyance which can quickly become a tripping hazard in the home. Before securing the boards down, make sure there are no electrical wires or pipes running underneath them.

Fix creaky wooden stairs
With just a sprinkle of talcum powder over the offending joints, creaky stairs can be fixed. If the friction continues after this, the joints will need to be strengthened in order to silence the squeaks.

Handles and doorknobs
Swapping out worn, bland handles and knobs can completely change the style of decor in a room. For example, a quick change of old kitchen door knobs for sleek black handles can bring a slightly out of date kitchen into a new, modern era.

Polish furniture
Bring your old wood furniture back to life with a little bit of elbow grease. Simply identify the pieces that could do with a shine up and gently rub the wax along the grain of the wood. Leave to dry and then buff with a soft dry cloth.

Mirror frames
Popping a simple frame around a floating mirror with MDF baseboards can help it look more at home with the rest of your decor. Wherever your mirror is in your home, use the frame to add a bit of colour, blend into the wall or experiment with new materials and patterns. Make sure to measure your mirror and cut your baseboards to the exact measurements. Paint them in whatever colour works for your space and apply to the mirror using liquid nails.
