The most gamer-friendly cities in the UK, revealed
The ever-growing UK games sector is now worth a staggering £7.16 billion. With numerous highly anticipated releases stealing the headlines and EGX 2022 just having taken place in London, there has perhaps never been a better time to be a British gamer. But as some places facilitate this more than others, many within the UK gaming community might be wondering where the best place is to live as a gamer in order to pursue their passion, both as a hobby and possible career.
Top10Casinos decided to investigate which is the most gamer-friendly city in the UK. They took data regarding broadband speed, number of games developers and publishers, gaming university courses, gaming jobs in the vicinity, as well as games services companies and number of gaming conventions in each region to establish a ranking for the most gamer-friendly cities in the UK. These are the results:
Bristol is the best city in the UK for gamers to live in, finishing with a final gamer-friendly score of 7.2 out of 10. Brighton follows in second, with 7 out of 10.
London is the third best city in the UK for gamers to live in, with a final gamer-friendly score of 6.8 out of 10.
Reading is the worst for gamers to live in, finishing with a gamer-friendly score of 2.2 out of 10.
Top10Casinos can reveal that the best UK city for gamers is Bristol with a final gamer-friendly score of 7.2/10. The city scored particularly high for broadband speed, at 64.7 Mbps (18th fastest in the country). With a decent 9 gaming developers or publishers per capita, as well as 5 gaming jobs per capita, it’s safe to say the southwestern city is absolutely gamer-friendly.
In second place is Brighton with a final gamer-friendly score of 7.0/10. The popular seaside holiday destination ranks highly due to a whopping 31 game developers/publishers per capita – the highest in the UK – and an abundance of relevant job opportunities.
London follows in third, with a final gamer-friendly score of 6.8/10. Though the famous English capital doesn’t quite top the list, it still scores highly in most categories. Additionally, London has the most annual gaming conventions out of any city on the list, with three – one of which, EGX 2022, just took place.
Out of the cities analysed, Reading is the worst place to live in as a gamer, scoring just 2.2/10. With a somewhat weak median broadband speed of 49.8 Mbps, a lack of gaming conventions and games services companies, as well as a mere two gaming jobs per capita, Reading is anything but gamer-friendly.
