Tinder experiment proves cleaner people are more attractive

The home and cleaning service company, Sidepost, knows a thing or two about dirt and mess, but they wanted to find out just how much of an impact bad habits can have on us in our daily lives, focusing on dating. In other words, could a messy dating profile put off potential partners? After surveying their own customers to find out what the consensus was, they found a whopping 62% said they wouldn’t date someone who is messy or has a dirty house. And from the results of that survey, the cleaning company thought to run a little experiment to see if this could be backed up further, and there, the Tidy Tinder Test experiment was born…

The Tidy Tinder Test

The test began by creating four profiles on Tinder, two clean ones and two messy ones, with two different people (Rafael and Karissa) owning a clean and a messy profile to see which one would get the most swipes. The clean profile would have images of the person with a nice and neat backdrop, i.e., no floordrobe or dirty dishes! The messy profile would be the opposite: with clothes ditched on the bed and a background that makes you want to call the cleaners right away!

The results?

The social science data is in… After running Rafael’s and Karrisa’s profile for five days on Tinder Platinum and swiping 500 times, the following results came in:

Rafael’s Profile results:

1. Messy Profile

Swipes and likes: 85

2. Clean Profile

Swipe and likes: 180, an increase of 112%

Karissa’s Profile results:

1. Messy Profile

Swipes and likes: 1452

2. Clean Profile

Swipe and likes: 2051, an increase of 41%
