Pangolia Acquired Catster and Dogster from Belvoir Media
Digital media and e-commerce startup Pangolia recently announced the acquisition of the legacy brands Catster and Dogster from Belvoir Media Group. This adds to Pangolia’s already prolific roster of content websites in the pet industry, including Hepper.com and Petkeen.com, which already have millions of monthly readers combined.
The acquisition is a massive leap forward for the startup and will further elevate its position as one of the fastest-growing pet content providers in the world.
Catster and Dogster were established in the 1960s and 1970s, respectively, and have long been the go-to for helping provide pet parents with the best advice possible. Catster started as Cat Fancy, a print magazine that later rebranded to Catster. Dogster, the sister publication of Catster, was a bimonthly print publication initially named Dog Fancy. The final issue of Cat Fancy was published in 2015 before being rebranded to Catster, and Dogster magazine was discontinued in late 2023.
The brands have been productive contributors both online and in print for pets for decades. Pangolia aims to further cement this legacy by adding vet expertise to the content and go even further in helping pets live happier, contented, and ultimately healthier lives.
Both brands have a long history of helping millions of pet parents with their pets, and as trusted spaces and sources of information in the industry, Pangolia does not take this for granted. The company has an experienced team of content writers, vet writers, editors, and vet editors who are ready to take on the challenge.
These legacy brands are in good hands. The ultimate, pervasive goal at Pangolia is to make the best vet advice and pet care resources accessible to as many pet owners as possible.
The media landscape has changed drastically since Dogster and Catster’s inception, and media companies need to evolve and adapt to these changes. Pangolia is—and always has been—a digital-first content company. This experience puts the company in a prime position to take good care of the Catster and Dogster brands in the best way possible and move them into the future. The digital media space allows companies like Pangolia to keep costs as low as possible and thus reach pet families in ways typically unavailable to print-only media.
Pangolia founder and CEO Simon Treulle stated, “We’re building brands for the long-term. Acquisitions like this mean beloved brands can be sustainable for years to come, and most importantly, our beloved pets can keep getting world-class help.”
