Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho, and Romelu Lukaku Saw the Biggest Market Value Drop During Loan, with a Combined Loss of Nearly €100M
While loaning is one of the ways to develop potential and maximize football players’ market value, many footballers have seen their valuations slump while being loaned to other clubs.
According to data presented by CasinosEnLigne.com, Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho, and Romelu Lukaku saw the biggest market value drop during the loan, with a combined loss of nearly €100 million.
Antoine Griezmann Tops with a €35M Market Value Drop
As young players, many footballers don’t get enough playtime at their parent club, so they often get sent out on loan to develop their game and gain more match experience. Still, other players might be loaned because they have fallen out of favor with their parent club.
Philippe Coutinho, who joined Bayern Munich on loan at the beginning of the 2019/20 season from FC Barcelona, is one example of this scenario. Despite being unable to hold down a starting position in the Barcelona team, Coutinho was still valued at €90 million in August 2019. However, by the end of his loan in August next year, his valuation slumped by €34 million. Still, that`s not the biggest market value drop one footballer has seen during a loan.
TransferMarkt data show that title goes to Antoine Griezmann, whose market value plunged by €35 million while being loaned to another club. In August 2021, Griezmann joined Atletico Madrid on a two-year loan deal, leaving Barcelona FC. His valuation stood at around €60 million at that time. Last month, the 32-year-old striker returned to his parent club, but his market value dropped to only €25 million.
Romelu Lukaku, the biggest market value loser in football in 2022, ranked third on this list, with a huge €30 million valuation drop during the loan. Statistics show Lukaku`s value plunged from €70 million to €40 million during his one-year loan to Inter.
Kylian Mbappé, Luka Jovic and Achraf Hakimi top Three Gainers During Loan
Unlike Griezmann, Coutinho, and Lukaku, who saw their market values plummet while being loaned to other clubs, Kylian Mbappé, Luka Jovic, and Achraf Hakimi are the top three gainers during the loan.
The Transfermarkt data show the market value of Kylian Mbappé surged by an impressive €85 million during his one-year loan to AS Monaco, the biggest increase in the football industry.
Luka Jovic saw the second-largest gain of €58 million, with his valuation jumping from €2 million to €60 million during his two-year loan to Eintracht Frankfurt in 2017. Achraf Hakimi rounds the top three names with a €49 million market value increase during his two-year loan from Real Madrid to Borussia Dortmund.
