French Film Festival UK Adds Saint Omer to 30th Anniversary Programme
French Film Festival UK is delighted to announce the addition of Alice Diop’s narrative debut, Saint Omer to this year’s programme. A young novelist confronts personal trauma as she observes the trial of a woman accused of infanticide. Loosely inspired by a real court case where a mother abandoned her baby to the rising tides on a beach; Saint Omer is a finely observed drama which stylishly probes the unspeakable.
In the wake of its World Premiere at Venice Film Festival, Diop’s film was met with a shower of prestigious awards, including the Silver Lion, the Best Debut Film Award (Luigi De Laurentiis Award) and the Edipo Re Award. Saint Omer was also recently announced as France’s contender for the 2023 Oscars category for Best International Feature Film.
Audiences can experience Saint Omer in a selection of participating French Film Festival UK venues including Ciné Lumière on the 9 and 13 Nov, as well as at Glasgow Film Theatre and at Watershed Arts Centre at dates to be confirmed.
